ENVIRONMENTAL INVESTIGATION AT NORTHPORT MIDDLE SCHOOL

July 10, 2020 / Industry News, PWGC News, PWGC Projects

PWGC was hired by the Northport-East Northport Union Free School District Board of Education to determine what adverse environmental conditions might be present within the Northport Middle School. PWGC conducted a comprehensive and thorough investigation and provided a report to culminate the effort. PWGC listened to the community, reviewed historical data, and read newspaper articles, FOIL documents, and health and building complaints. PWGC sampled soil, groundwater, UIC structures, sub-slab vapor, and indoor air and inspected every room of the building, the roof, and the grounds multiple times over the last six months. PWGC is confident in its conclusions and recommendations. PWGC thanks the Northport-East Northport Union Free School District and the Northport community for trusting us with this task. We hope our findings are able to address the concerns of the School District and community.

The Northport-East Northport Union Free School District Board of Education met on July 9th and approved the report and recommendations.

In general, most of the recommendations were for miscellaneous, small items.  The more significant recommendations were to remediate the UIC structures, adhere to a Soil and Materials Management Plan for the field within the track, remove supplies from the art room that do not have Safety Data Sheets, clean the roof drains, and redirect run-off away from one of the hallways that gets puddling following rain storms.
