A spark of inspiration was found in Rebecca Reagin’s hydrogeology class at SUNY Oswego. In that class, she experienced well drilling and was introduced to characterizing soil as the borings were collected. Rebecca used interface probes to monitor the depth to water and depth to bottom. She believes that this class was special and provided a rare opportunity to learn real life techniques and applications. Her curiosity lead her to graduate from SUNY Oswego with a degree in geology with a focus in environmental earth science.
After graduating, Rebecca interned in the Natural Resource Department with the National Park Service (NPS). This was her first experience and exposure in the natural sciences. Rebecca was provided the opportunity to use equipment such as a sonde to measure dissolved O2, conductivity, pH, temperature, and turbidity in a river. She attended meetings/worked with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, United States Environmental Protection Agency, and Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission to discuss different environmental concerns.
Rebecca’s also worked as a park ranger for the NPS, interned at Disney, and worked in retail. Her confidence talking to current clients or contractors at a job site at PWGC comes from her years of experience in retail customer service and public speaking.
Rebecca, who was lucky to use the equipment in her hydrogeology class at SUNY Oswego, believes that higher education should offer courses and/or opportunities to their students that use common field equipment and educate the student’s on what technical skills are necessary in the field.
Since joining PWGC, Rebecca has been instrumental in leading field activities and coordinating with clients, contractors and other PWGC staff. We appreciate and are honored to have Rebecca on the PWGC team and cannot wait to see what she will accomplish.
