We are proud to announce that Hayley Schatz, Engineering Geologist at PWGC, has passed the Federal Aviation Administration‘s Remote Pilot Certificate for 40 CFR Part 107, Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems exam! The certificate demonstrates that she understands the regulations, operating requirements, and procedures for safely flying drones.
Hayley had several requirements to obtain to receive her certificate. The eligibility requirements were:
- Must hold a pilot certificate issued under 14 CFR part 61
- Must have completed a flight review within the previous 24 months
- Complete the Part 107 Small UAS Initial (ALC-451) online training course
- Complete Form 8710-13 for a remote pilot certificate (FAA Airman Certificate and/or Rating Application) in IACRA
In order to receive the certificate Haley had to pass the online training course and then make an appointment with an FAA-designated pilot examiner, an airman certificate representative, an FAA-certificated flight instructor, or at an FAA Flight Standards District Office to validate her identity, her completed 8710-13 form, proof of her current flight review, photo ID, and her online course completion certificate to receive a temporary certificate.
The Part 107 Small UAS Initial (ALC-451) online training course covers the following topics:
- Applicable regulations relating to small unmanned aircraft system rating privileges, limitations, and flight operation
- Effects of weather on small unmanned aircraft performance
- Small unmanned aircraft loading and performance
- Emergency procedures
- Crew resource management
- Determining the performance of small unmanned aircraft
- Maintenance and preflight inspection procedures
- Operation at night
In order to keep her certificate current, Hayley will have to complete a course to keep her aviation knowledge up to date. Job well done Hayley!
