On Wednesday June 17th, the New York State Society of Professional Engineers (NYSSPE) Long Island Chapter will present a Geothermal Seminar hosted by our President/CEO Paul K. Boyce, PE, PG. The seminar will begin at 6:00 pm and is worth 2 PDHs. The seminar will be presented online using Zoom and pre-registration is required. $25 for Members of the NYSSPE and $50 for non-members. Mr. Boyce will be discussing the design of the new geothermal system for St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The program reads:

PWGC collaborated in the design of a new geothermal HVAC system for St. Patrick’s Cathedral with the Client/Owner’s architect, and representative.  Based on an initial feasibility study, a geothermal plant option compared to a new traditional system would save over 25% of the annual energy costs, and would be more compact & virtually invisible to the public.  The Client/Owner selected the geothermal option, consistent with Pope Francis’ vision of preservation and responsible stewardship of our planet. PWGC and Landmark Facilities Group (LFG) designed the 10-well system as well as the reversible chillers and the new chilled and hot water piping distribution system.  The interface between the two firms’ work is a series of plate-frame heat exchangers on a geothermal manifold in the plant.  PWGC and LFG collaborated on the well capacity needed to meet the cathedral’s heating and cooling demand annually and into the future.

Paul K. Boyce, PE, PG is President/CEO of P.W. Grosser Consulting. An environmental engineering professional for more than 20 years, Mr. Boyce has an impressive portfolio of successful project strategies, designs, management and execution. Mr. Boyce looks beyond the obvious to determine whether new natural techniques will achieve the client’s long-term plans, limit future liability and have the least impact on overall operations. He assists clients with choosing conventional technologies and implementing them for use to their fullest capacity. Mr. Boyce has earned a reputation with clients and within the industry for his vast hands-on experience in assessing feasibility of existing systems and providing financially sound modifications.
