The Mayor’s Office of Environmental Remediation’s has rolled out its updated Searchable Property Environmental E-Database (SPEED) 2.0 portal which enables users to examine environmental and other data on properties in New York City. You can find regularly updated information about certain sites in City, State, and Federal environmental remediation programs. Some of the information that you can find on SPEED 2.0 includes the following:
- A complete list of properties with E-Designations and Restrictive Declarations
- Petroleum Spills
- Mapped Wetlands
- Site ownership for each tax parcel
- Community Brownfield planning areas and links to their reports
- Flood zones and hurricane evacuation zones (resiliency)
- City, State, and Federal business/development zones
You can also search for individual vacant tax parcels and view historical information, such as past land uses and historical aerial photos, political and geographic districts, and building footprint maps.
PWGC currently utilizes the site as a limited due diligence tool to gain a general understanding of any past or current environmental investigations at subject sites within New York City, as well as a quick reference tool for eligibility considerations for tangible tax credits as part of the New York State Brownfield Cleanup Program. It is a great free tool which is routinely updated and is user friendly; PWGC is excited to see further expansion of its capabilities.
