Every spring ASCE holds its Legislative Fly-In in Washington, DC, an exclusive and intensive two-day event providing participants with professional development in honing their skills in the public policy process and advocacy, as well as valuable peer-to-peer networking with ASCE leaders.
Tim D’Agostino, PE, Senior Engineer at PWGC, had the opportunity to participate in this year’s ASCE Legislative Fly-In event. At the Fly-In, Tim had the opportunity to advance the Society’s collective policy priorities while also gaining beneficial leadership skills.
Over the two days, Tim participated in:
- Exclusive briefing sessions on key activity in Congress impacting the profession, new regulations and implementation plans, and ASCE’s legislative priorities.
- Interactive training on advocacy, communicating your “ask”, and building relationships with your elected leaders — including pre-event webinars
- Networking with ASCE peers from across the country
- Meetings with Members of Congress or their staff
- Training on continuing valuable relationships with elected officials after returning home
Tim highly recommends attending ASCE’s Legislative Fly-In. Tim said, “I enjoyed learning about how to be a better advocate for our profession and sharing our industry’s recommendations and policy priorities with Congress. It was an honor to be a part of the New York State fly-in delegation and to meet and work with so many great engineers from across the country to help support our nation’s infrastructure. Thank you ASCE and PWGC for this opportunity!”
