April 30, 2020 / Industry News, PWGC News

We are excited to announce that four PWGC employees, Usman Chaudhry, Senior Hydrogeologist, Peter Hayes, GIS Analyst, Maryann Ashworth, PG, Senior Project Manager, and Sam Johnson, Field Hydrogeologist, had their abstract, Using UAV Technology to Monitor Shoreline Change and Beach Stabilization, Montauk Beach, Long Island, NY, published for the 27th Conference on the Geology of Long Island and Metropolitan New York (Conference). An excerpt from the abstract is below:

“The usage of UAV technology for beach restoration and shoreline monitoring projects provide high quality, cost-effective, quick and acceptable alternative to the traditional methods of data collection. The use of routine UAV modeling over susceptible coastlines could provide critical information about vulnerable areas where early maintenance could provide a reduction in long term stabilization costs and damage from storm events.”

The full abstract may be viewed by clicking here.

The Conference was supposed to be on Saturday, April 18th at Stony Brook University, NY. At the Conference, Usman was to present the groups abstract. Unfortunately, the Conference was cancelled due to measures taken to combat the spread of COVID-19.

A full research paper may be prepared upon the request of the Conference organizer.
